Allergy Services

The Shea Ear Clinic is pleased to announce the expansion of allergy services for our patients. Our team offers a comprehensive program to address our patients’ allergy symptoms, using current best practices to resolve your allergy problems.

Many options exist for treating allergies. If the symptoms are mild or occasional, then antihistamines or nasal sprays may be all that is needed. If complaints are persistent or severe, a course of immunotherapy and food evaluation may be the better option.

Allergy therapy can address many chronic symptoms experienced by patients, including key complaints like:

  • Sinusitis
  • Headaches
  • Frequent colds
  • Post nasal drip
  • Nasal congestion
  • Recurring polyps
  • Vertigo
  • Hearing loss
  • Eustachian tube dysfunction
  • Fatigue
  • Coughing
  • Wheezing
  • Skin problems
  • Itching
  • Eye irritation
  • Sore throat

At Shea, we work to create individualized treatment plans, beginning with a physical exam and extensive interview about your symptoms and history. Our goal through a treatment plan is to first provide patients relief from symptoms.

We employ skin tests that screen for dust mites, molds, pollens, cockroach and animal irritants. This process involves minimal discomfort. We have a protocol for evaluating and treating food allergies as well, which are often a mitigating factor.

Immunotherapy is often recommended, with weekly shots given in our office or, when necessary, can be given by your local healthcare provider. Some patients can be adequately controlled with sublingual immunotherapy and do not need shots. Symptoms may be relieved early in the therapy. Greater results can occur after six months with continued improvement over the course of the injections.

The Shea Clinic allergy program is overseen by Dr. Greg Staffel and the nursing personnel. He has been passionately involved with allergy services for over 20 years. Together, the Shea staff offers a comprehensive approach to resolving your allergy problems. We appreciate our patients and work to achive an optimal response to therapy.
