Sometimes patients would like a minimum of “down-time” and would like their jowls lifted and their jawline tightened, but without the recovery involved in a “full facelift”. Typically their neck does not need as much of a lift either. In this case a somewhat abbreviated operation can be performed in which the incision is limited to the area in front of and just a bit behind the ear. This gives access to the jowl area, and limited access to the neck, which is often treated with liposuction. This abbreviated facelift is popular as well with younger patients. It goes by various names used by marketing specialists touting its benefits. We call it an S-lift because the excised skin is often in the shape of an S.
