Tobacco Use and its Effect on your Ear, Nose, and Throat Health: Part 2

Cigarette smoking and smokeless tobacco are known hazards to your health. It is an issue that is addressed in the Ear, Nose, and Throat office for many reasons.

Second, tobacco smoke it is just as harmful to those exposed to it as second-hand or third-hand smoke as it is to the smoker. Non-smokers, especially children, should not ride in cars where someone has been smoking. The smoker should smoke outside. NOT under the vent-a-hood. NOT in a room with the door closed. NOT in an attached garage. NOT in the bathroom with the window open. There is strong evidence now that the residue in the upholstery, curtains, paint, and wallpaper of a smoker’s home are harmful to those exposed, even when there is no active smoking in their presence.
