Shea Introduces Made-For-Apple Hearing Aids to the Mid-South Market!

The Shea Hearing Aid Center recently introduced the latest in technology with new hearing aids made for Apple products. These new hearing instruments are digital, personalized and they’re discreet, making wearing these devices more appealing than ever before.

More than 36 million adults in the United States have some hearing loss, but only 1 out of 5 people who need a hearing aid have one, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. Industry analysts agree that this large gap is due to the decades-old reputation of hearing aids being large and obvious along with being completely insufficient with filtering out background noise. The good news is the perception has improved in recent years and rightfully so! In the last decade, the industry has seen tremendous strides starting with the first digital hearing aids becoming available and the devices becoming increasingly smaller and more sophisticated ever since.

The NuEar iSDS hearing instruments sold only in Memphis at the Shea Hearing Aid Center connect to a FREE app available in the App Store. Conversations, music, movies, phone calls and other audio are streamed to the small ear piece, and users can control the volume to precise degrees. In a recent test of the device, conversations unfolding in the next room went from totally undetectable to slightly audible. NuEar’s app also uses GPS to “remember” the volume settings for up to 20 locations – everything from a crowded café to a peaceful library – and automatically adjusts the noise level when the user is in a car.

The app can also turn an Apple device into a microphone, and includes a feature that helps forgetful users track down misplaced hearing aids. Shea Clinic Ear Nose & Throat’s Dr. Brian McKinnon stated, “I think the convenience aspect of this brings the same hearing function to people with hearing loss as their normal-hearing counterparts.”
