Shea Hearing Aid Center Introduces Made for iPhone Technology

New for the summer of 2014, the Shea Hearing Aid Center is introducing the latest in technology to Memphis and the surrounding Mid-South region. These brand new top-of-the-line “made-for-iPhone” hearing instruments connect to the Trulink Hearing Control app available as a FREE download in the App Store. Conversations, music, movies, phone calls and other audio are actually streamed into the small earpiece, and users can control the settings to precise degrees. The app also utilizes a GPS system to “remember” user preference listening setting for up to 20 locations including everything from a crowded restaurant to a quiet library. They also automatically adjust the noise level when the user is in a car.

The app can also turn an Apple device into a microphone, and includes a feature that helps forgetful users track down misplaced hearing aids. “We think the convenience of this brings the same function to people with hearing loss as their normal-hearing counterparts,” said Dr. Dave Fabry, vice president of audiology for Shea Hearing Aid Center’s manufacturer in Minnesota.

The “iSDS” hearing instruments are compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and arose out of collaboration with Apple and the manufacturer for all Shea Hearing Aid Center products. With over 10,000 baby boomers turning 65 every day, these new devices are just what the doctor ordered for those individuals whose hearing isn’t what it used to be. These new instruments can be both personalized and discreet which makes wearing the devices more appealing. According to John Gross, Administrator for Shea Clinic Ear Nose & Throat and Shea Hearing Aid Center, “Boomers like myself survived a huge renaissance of rock-and-roll music. The louder it was, the better it was! But there’s no doubt 15 or 20 years of this behavior accelerated our hearing impairment. There’s an old saying that the older I get, the older ‘old’ becomes. We still love our music and we still want to hear it.”

More than 36 million adults in the United States have hearing loss, but only 1 out of 5 people who need a hearing aid have one according to the National Institute on Deafness. Industry experts attribute this gap to the decades-old reputation of being large, obvious and inferior with regards to filtering background noise. This perception was greatly improved with digital hearing aids which were introduced about 10 years ago. Today’s hearing instruments have become increasingly smaller and increasingly more sophisticated.

“iSDS brings what people love about our hearing instruments to anyone who suffers from hearing loss,” says Dr. Shea. “iSDS delivers new standards of performance and personalization, while providing convenient control and connectivity to iOS devices.”

Building on iOS features that let you do everyday things like making cell phone and FaceTime calls, listening to music and using Siri, the iSDS instruments take advantage of TruLink technology and compatible iOS devices to meet the needs of today’s demanding and tech-savvy consumers. In addition to seamless integration with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, iSDS hearing instruments are also standalone hearing devices that are packed with best-in-performance features, including feedback cancellation, adaptive noise management, and directionality.

If you or a loved one would like a FREE demonstration of the new iSDS hearing instruments, please give Shea Hearing Aid Center a call at 901-415-6667 and Judy or Joyce will be happy to assist you with booking an appointment at your convenience.
