Tinnitus is noise in the ear that is not present in the environment. It may
be ringing, roaring, buzzing, chirping, or popping. It may be intermittent
or constant. It is often associated with hearing loss and most often is due
to the same cause as the hearing loss. Everyone has at least some tinnitus,
which they would hear if they went into a quiet enough room.
There are many causes of tinnitus. The most common are deterioration of the
hearing nerves, exposure to loud noise, adverse reaction to drugs, coffee and
tea, nicotine, and various illnesses, especially high blood pressure.
Almost everyone over sixty has some hearing loss and tinnitus from
deterioration of the inner ear and hearing nerves. Most people can ignore it
to the extent it does not interfere with their life. If treatment is
required, Shea Ear Clinic will help you choose from several effective
treatments best suited for your condition. Transtympanic inner ear perfusion
with Lidocaine has been helpful in some patients with tinnitus at the Shea
Ear Clinic.
